April 18, 2026 (April 19, 2026 back-up day)
Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch is excited to announce the annual Raptorthon fundraiser this year on April 18th! Raptorthon raises funds for Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch and its partner Hawk Migration Association (HMA) who work in tandem to collect and distribute essential raptor migration data from seasonal hawk counts.
Raptorthon is a sponsored bird count, with a main focus on raptors. The goal is to see the most significant number of raptor species (and all other bird species) during a 24-hour-period.
We welcome your participation! The count will happen over 24 hours on April 18th (weather day April 19) in an 8-mile radius birding circle shown below around Dinosaur Ridge. Everyone can be a part of the team by birding within the circle individually or as part of a group on April 18. eBird lists can then be shared with the dinoridgehawkwatch eBird account and will contribute towards The Mile High Raptors team's total species count. Help us beat last year's count of 64 species including 14 raptor species. Let's get outside and have fun birding!
Please consider donating to support our Raptorthon team, The Mile High Raptors.
Donations can be made on the HMA Team Page.
50% of the raised funds are donated to the Dinosaur Ridge Hawk Watch. The other 50% goes towards HMA to support its grant programs for education and research efforts as well as for projects such as the Raptor Population Index and HawkCount.org. All money raised supports raptor monitoring to inform conservation.
Thank you for supporting raptor conservation through migration monitoring.
